In all honesty I don't really mind that Justin guy and have yet to have any problem with him (probably because I don't engage him in conversation) just wish he would chill out once in awhile. Luckily I have my built in ignore button when things get annoying.

I was what would be termed a lurked and even I had Justin blocked after his crack at someone who had passed on.

Reason why I had been on SR.com for years and not posted once. Everyone becomes so focused on one dumbass thing of his to the point of forgetting what really counts, the fucking music.

Yeah, that was about the last straw for me there with him too before I had him blocked, as well. It's reassuring to know that we are having people post here that are feeling more like contributing because there's some sort of proactive stance in terms of not letting things get carried away.

It is really easy for anyone who sat on the sidelines or didn't ever have any good content to provide to say that Justin was harmless over his long-assed six year stay at sr.com, but to those of us who did TRY to keep the discussion somewhat topical and civil, Dan's policy was tough to swallow. To see someone like John Arzgarth, who dedicated HOURS/DAYS fighting the good fight (for YEARS) with all of his well-thought/sincere reviews get drowned out by attention-whoring neurotics made my heart sink as a fan of the real people and culture of this music.

As a start of a brand new forum, a line must be drawn in the sand and that time is now. This forum definitely has the feel of sr.com back in 2000-01 and I don't want to see it fall into the pitfalls of what an open/unmoderated forum got us in the past. Besides, it isn't like this genre is attracting the kids like flies. We all know each other and what we like at this point. Even if Electric Wizard somehow strikes gold on FM radio, I don't think the flood of teenage pinheads would be enough to overwhelm any moderation this forum can support. In the nearly 11 years I spent on sr.com, I don't think there were 15 trolls over the course of time that were really a systemic problem. I think if this forum decided to expand moderation capability, we could drive even the most determined troll away.

Did Justin ever fuck around in one of the review-forums? I don't remember any spottings there, at least not in the way he behaved in GD.
But I agree that paying attention to his bullshit was as much part of the problem.

Good for them. Can you say the same about the GD? That was sorta the backbone of that forum, by a ten-to-one margin.

Already noticing a few trying to downplay his idiocy...cmon people, this guy added nothing to the old forum, drove away people and went as far as to threaten the board owner, music festival organizers, and forum regulars. Dubh Croi did the same but somehow gets a pass.

Dubh Croi, to his credit, managed to talk about music more often than not, and by music I mean multiple bands and not just about Pantera. Sure, he often devolved into tough guy histrionics, but I can't really fault the guy for that. Worse things have happened on the internet.

I never was threatened personally, but watched as some people disagreed with him and they guy went into meltdown mode. He seems to have weekly internet privledges so hid bullshit is limited.

Mr. Red pretty much summarized my thoughts on Justin and dealing with forum nuisances. This board reminds me of the first few years of SR.com, where the music discussion was thoughtful and intelligent, and the other topics discussed were interesting. Sure, there's some shit-slinging here, but it's all in good jest (so far). I like everybody here; the "other" place seems to be attracting the posters I could have done without at SR.com.

Personally, I don't feel a need to be involved on two separate forums dedicated to the continuation of SR.com. This one seems to be suiting my needs just fine, so I'll stay here. Especially if I don't have to worry about Justin popping up and destroying threads.
