The season will be starting in about two weeks. I figured it was time to start a thread for the new season.

Lets Go Flyers!!!

Hoping my Avs can build on some strengths this year while I flirt with my east coast girlfriend team: Tampa Bay.

Here's to hockey.

Watched the end of the Flyers/Leafs game last night. Wasn't gonna get Center Ice 'cause they jacked the price up to $179(which is bullshit, I thought last year we paid $139) but the wife is squawking about wanting it, and I enjoyed what I saw last night, so we'll probably get it again.

Jackets win the cup!

1st year of the Jets being back (Winnipegger here). Should be awesome! I've still got the "Go Jets Go!" big foam hand, and an autographed program (Smail, Steen, Boschman, Hawerchuk). I mean, that's going way fucking back to the mid 80's.

Doug Smail played in my hockey league last year. I poked the puck away from him twice on the first shift. Didn't know it was him until a teammate said, "nice work against Smail."
The second shift he schooled me.

Did you see what happened to Wayne Simmons last night during the shootout? Some jackass from the stands threw a banana peel at him.

I did not see that happen. Sad, hope they got the guy and threw him out.

I didn't catch the game unfortunatley cause i wanted to see how peter mueller was making out.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm glad varly put up the shutout. If He can stay healthy and consistent then the trade the av's made is worth it's weight. I wasn't overly impressed with him in DC, especially after seeing neuvirth..and then holtby (who I believe is going to be a franchise goalie for us). The av's are my W.C. team so I don't shit on them but I agree with peter stastny when it comes to the GM.

speaking of goalies, holy shit, verizon was a little shocked by vokoun's play. Goofy bounces, soft goals? wtf? We're all hoping it gets out early. There were fans actually chanting for varly..to my chagrin..but whatever. I loved the caps play tonight, eliminating the pretty stuff (not all) and going to the ugly..I'm glad all the shit I talked about Marcus Johanson last season might actually be fruiting. Now we just neeed kuznetzov in the fold.

ps

HOW ABOUT ANZE KOPITAR? that dude is on fire!

I was at the opening night game against the fucking Wings. Varly was not the problem there. We had a good taste of decent defense but fall apart on the power play. So I'm glad for the shut out for him too because he could use the confidence.

He is a stud. I made a point to get him on every one of my fantasy teams. I think this is the year he brings his game to the level to be among the top tier guys like Ovechkin, Stamkos, Perry and the Sedin twins.

Not a good 1st game for the Jets, but I think that they were nervous and overthought things--there was huge pressure, and the actual game was bound to underwhelm, compared to the whirlwind romance of hype that has been building up for the last few months. I've got a pair of tickets for Jan 14th's game against New Jersey, so that should be great. It's ridiculously difficult to get tickets.

Well, it's not like the Thrashers were going to the post-season anytime soon, so why expect the Jets to be any better? I don't follow them, did they make any off-season acquisitions that are noteworthy? They looked completely outclassed Sunday when I watched 'em.
Their jerseys aren't too bad though.

It's cool that the city supports them. I've seen Columbus support an underachieving team for their entire existence, and this season looks to be no exception. Guess it's not that hard when you're the only game in town, and the Buckeyes are sucking bad this year too. But ya gotta wonder when the honeymoon is gonna end.

I'm happy for the peg but what I don' like is how true north and the nhl have seemingly tried to erase the fact
That atlanta had ever exsisted. I thought it a nuts that there was talk of kane not being able to wear 9 because of hull... totally different franchise. I feel bad for the atl fans, not only have you lost 2 franchises but one the
League totally tries to forget about. I'm glad everyone is there to support them but how long til th novelty wears off?

4 games into the season for the Canucks and Luongo and Schneider have alternated starting. I'm all for having whoever is playing well starting, not sure how management feels about paying Luongo 6 million to sit though.

Watching this right now...the Wings are 2-0 to start the season, but it was against Ottawa and Colorado...two pretty weak teams. This is the first real test.

I thought it was a pretty close first period, but am waiting on some Datsyuk magic to get us on the board.

Well no Datsyuk magic needed just Canucks slopiness. Howard is on his game tonight.
